William obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law at the University of South Pacific. He then obtained a Professional Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of the South Pacific and practiced law in the Public Solicitors Office in Solomon Islands from 2017 until 2022, when he joined Primo Afeau Legal Services, the Solomon Islands member of the Pacific Legal Network.  In 2023, William graduated with a Masters of Law (LLM) on Energy Law with Professional Skills, from the University of Aberdeen, UK.

 

William has varied legal experience in criminal defence, family law, environmental law, mining law and commercial law. William has expanded and diversified his law practice to also focus on company restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, investment and policy analysis in natural resources development. He was local counsel on the groundbreaking Waghena mining case and is currently engaged in the Rennell oil spill case, pursued by the landowning tribes and communities of Rennell, against the insurers and other parties.

 

He is a co-author to in the first edition Environmental Law and Governance in the Pacific Climate Change, Biodiversity and Communities (Chapter 12) published by Routledge 2020 and is Vice President of the Solomon Islands Environmental Law Society.

 

William was a member of the Protected Areas Advisory Committee in the Solomon Islands from 2019 to 2021, providing advice and working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and rural communities, by introducing and promoting alternative development models with their forests through conservation and the protected areas strategies.

 

William is also a well known local musician and made fame in 2021 with the co-recorded global island jam hit song “UKULELE”, voted first at the 2021 DJOOKY Music Awards – the world’s largest online song competition.
